In 1987, MASBO adopted the concept of a voluntary program for certifying the competency of school district clerks and business managers through a prescribed course of study and in-depth training. This voluntary program was endorsed and supported by the Directors of the Montana School Board Association in March, 1988.
The following certificates may be issued by MASBO:
Business Specialist Certificate
Requires the applicant to have three years experience in the area of specialization in a system-wide administrative or supervisory position.
Standard Certificate
Requires the applicant to attend a curriculum of coursework as defined by each level of endorsement. No test is required for the Standard Certificate. Full initial certification class hours will be honored from April 1, 1988.
Level 1
Requires 120 hours for initial certification and 120 hours of continuing education hours over a four-year period for renewal.
Level 2
180 hours for initial certification and 120 hours of continuing education hours over a four-year period for renewal.
Level 3
Requires 240 hours for initial certification and 120 hours over a four-year period for renewal.
Class hours may be earned in any subject area A - O.
Professional Certificate
Requires the applicant to successfully complete coursework for a Standard Certificate and achieve at least 70% on a test designed to show proficiency at the level of application.
